Super Eagles and Atalanta winger Ademola Lookman has issued a strong warning to Arsenal ahead of their UEFA Champions League opener on Thursday.
Lookman made his return to action for Atalanta over the weekend, marking his first appearance of the season with an impressive performance.
The 26-year-old registered both an assist and a goal in Atalanta’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Fiorentina at the Gewiss Stadium, earning him the Man of the Match award.
“I’m very happy to be back playing in front of our fans and to do it together with my teammates,” Lookman said.
“I really enjoyed myself today, and I’m proud to be part of such a strong team. We worked really well during the summer, and today we showed our value.
I’m happy to be back in shape, and I can’t wait to continue on this path.”
Next up for Atalanta is a high-stakes Champions League clash against Arsenal at the Gewiss Stadium.
While Arsenal are considered favourites due to the depth and quality of their squad, Lookman remains confident in his team’s ability to rise to the occasion.
“Arsenal are a very strong team, and I know what to expect from them. Playing against a team of that level is always a difficult challenge, but we are ready.
“We earned this place in the Champions League, and we want to show that we deserve to be here.
Lookman also highlighted the importance of Atalanta’s home advantage:
“The Gewiss Stadium will be full, and it will be a special environment for a European night like Thursday.
We are charged and ready to face the match with the right spirit.”
Atalanta last featured in the Champions League during the 2021/22 season and will be looking to make a strong impression in Europe’s elite competition after securing their place by winning the Europa League last season.
