Plateau United captain, Golbe Elisha, has spoken out about the reported violence that followed their recent NPFL draw against Enugu Rangers in Jos.
While the match itself concluded peacefully, Elisha clarified that tensions escalated afterwards when the Rangers’ bus was struck by a stone, injuring a staff member and damaging the vehicle.
Elisha explained, “The match ended well no quarrel but at the end of end of the day what we saw was disheartening because Rangers left the stadium and nothing happened.”
“It was on their way they said some guys stoned their bus. But in the stadium the match was peaceful.”
The captain campaigned that while Plateau United regrets the incident, the club does not condone such actions.
“This match felt like a local derby with many former Plateau United players now at Rangers and vice versa. Our coach is also their former coach.”
“We have to apologize to them because we are friends.”
He also hinted the rivalry between the two teams but urged fans to approach matches with respect.
“Some spectators still carry the mindset of ‘winning at all costs.’ But Plateau United will never send anyone to harm or damage another team.”
“Unfortunately, this happened, but we will ensure better security for visiting teams in the future.”
Elisha concluded by calling for a fairer approach to match outcomes, urging fans to keep the sport’s integrity in mind.
