Nigeria Professional Football League leaders Akwa United Football Club will seek to consolidate their position on top of the log when they file out against FC Ifeanyi Ubah on Wednesday.
The Promise Keepers have won four of their opening five matches this season and are top of the log with 12 points.
On their last away trip to Lokoja, Akwa United defeated Niger Tornadoes 1-2 and they will be hoping to repeat the same feat on Matchday 6 when they engage the Anambra Warriors who are placed 12th on the table with 6 points from 5 matches.
Last season, the Aiteo Cup Champions were forced to a 1-1 draw in Uyo before losing the second leg 1-0 in Nnewi.
The Promise Keepers will retain top spot if they avoid defeat in Nnewi on Wednesday.
Speaking ahead of the match, Coach Abdu Maikaba says he is optimistic that his team is capable of picking a positive result in Nnewi.
“We are very happy with the way we are playing at the moment. We are on top of the table after five matches and that clearly shows our intention. We want to remain on top and that is why this game is very important to us.
” we can hold our own against any team in this league irrespective of where we are playing. Last season, we lost 4 points to Ifeanyi Ubah over two legs, So we will approach the match with desire and determination to win”
Maikaba hinted.
The coach has a fully fit squad to choose from and he has selected 18 of his top players for the encounter.
