Rivers United head coach, Finidi George, says his team will work on bouncing back after his team’s first defeat of the 2024/25 NPFL season; a 2-0 loss to Ikorodu City at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan.
The setback came as Ayomide Cole opened the scoring for the hosts just three minutes after the break, netting his first NPFL goal.
Ikorodu City then doubled their lead four minutes later when substitute Ajeyigbe Toyeeb struck, sealing three crucial points that boost Ikorodu’s chances of league survival.
Despite falling two goals behind, Rivers United continued to press, but they struggled to break through Ikorodu City’s organized defense, anchored by their captain, Waliu.
In his post-match comments, Finidi George acknowledged the critical moments that turned the game:
“There were two moments in the game which led to the goals, as they say in football you have to concentrate for the whole duration,” he stated.
“We’ll go back, review, and see where we got it wrong.”
Rivers United will aim to bounce back when they host Bayelsa United in their next NPFL fixture on Sunday.
