West Bromwich Albion are set to relaunch their romance with Nigerian players, as The Baggies are said to be in the hunt for the signature of Liverpool winger, Sheyi Ojo.
Barely 24 hours after reports emerged that Ojo has caught the attention of English lower divisions side, Nottingham Forest for a summer deal, the latest link for him is coming from The Hawthorns.
West Brom’s Nigerian tradition includes former Super Eagles stars, Nwankwo Kanu, Ifeanyi Udeze and Peter Osaze Odemwingie, as well as their onetime costliest signing, Aide Brown Ideye, an Ojo looks set to join the list.
The Nigerian-born England youth international is back at Anfield, after another spell on loan last term with Fulham and, though he is yearning for a permanent stay at Merseyside this season, The Reds look set to deal him again.
Another bait is now coming their way from West Brom, who have registered their interest in Ojo, according to Liverpool Echo journalist, James Pearce.
Ojo, who has had an impressive pre-season so far for Liverpool, has also been linked with a possible return to Fulham, where he spent last season on loan.
The 21-year-old joined Liverpool back in 2011 as a 14-year-old, and has spent time at both Wigan and Wolves.
Now, Pearce says West Brom have “registered interest” in Ojo, but does not specify if it is for a loan or a permanent deal, while the youngster says he is only thinking of making his mark with Liverpool in the coming campaign.
Ojo said: “I am just trying to focus on the present by training well, staying fit and healthy and trying to do the best I can in these games I’m given. We’ve got to just see what happens after it.
“I feel like there comes a time when in order to make the next step, maybe you have to go out on loan and get a different experience. If that happens for me, then I’ll be looking to keep improving and come back stronger.”
