West Bromwich Albion of England winger, Yusuf Ojebode has opted out of contention for a place with Nigeria’s youth national team, Flying Eagles for the upcoming West African Football Union (WAFU) U-20 Nations Cup.
Ojebode had all along been part of the plans arranged by Flying Eagles’ gaffer, Paul Aigbogun for the regional competition in Lome, Togo, but footballlive.ng gathered that he will now miss out on account of injury.
Consequently, Ojebode will not be linking up with Aigbogun’s team in Abuja, despite having earlier committed himself to the squad during a visit in London by Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) first vice-president, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi.
Ojebode is eligible to represent England at youth level but opted to commit his international future to Nigeria, but West Brom directed him to withdraw from the upcoming camp on account of his recent return from a long-term injury.
The winger has played only 22 minutes of football for The Baggies’ under-18 team since he was cleared to return to action late October, after suffering a grade three tear in his quad.
