Manchester United new head coach, Rúben Amorim, has been asked to focus on improving the performances of the current squad rather than relying on new signings, according to reports.
Amorim, who is set to take charge of his first match against Ipswich Town on Sunday, has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the club.
The 39-year-old is expected to turn around a team currently sitting 13th in the Premier League.
Reports from sources revealed financial concerns at the club mean there is unlikely to be significant transfer spending in January.
While United’s recruitment will be managed by sporting director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox, Amorim will have a say in transfers next summer. However, it was added that the club’s transfer budget will remain tight, and there is little desire to overhaul the squad in the short term.
Amorim’s predecessor, Erik ten Hag, made huge investments in the transfer market, spending over £600 million ($757.8m) on 15 first-team players across three summers.
Reports suggests that such spending is unlikely to be replicated over the next three years, meaning the Portuguese focus will be on extracting the best from the Manchester United existing group of players.
The former Sporting CP manager is expected to implement a new tactical system, favoring a 3-4-3 formation that proved successful in Portugal.
Amorim held his first training session at Carrington on Monday with non-international players such as Marcus Rashford, Casemiro, and Kobbie Mainoo.
Players returning from international duty are expected to report back later this week.
