Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, made his return to football after seven months, playing in PAOK Salonica’s 2-1 friendly win against AEK Larnaca.
Troost-Ekong had been sidelined after undergoing surgery for an injury that was sustained during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.
The 30-year-old defender had returned to training towards the end of last season but was not considered fit enough to participate in matches for the club until yesterday.
Due to concerns regarding his fitness, Troost-Ekong was also left out of Nigeria’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic.
Clubs in the Saudi Arabian Professional League were reportedly interested in signing William Troost-Ekong ahead of the summer transfer market, following his great performance in the AFCON2023 at Cote d’Voire.
