Akwa United assistant coach, Aliyu Zubair believes the Promise Keepers are genuine title contenders for the 2018 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
The Uyo based outfit are second in the NPFL table with 41 points from 24 games.
United recently defeated Ajagun Football Academy 6-0 in a friendly match as they fine tune preparations for the crucial bend in the top flight.
“We have been preparing very hard for the tedious task that is ahead of us. There is no cause for alarm,” coach Zubair told Footballlive.ng.
“The league title is our target and that’s what we want. The entire team knows what is at stake at this stage of the season. We are ready to compete, and will challenge for the title.
“We won the Aiteo Cup in 2017 and want to go one better with the league shield. It’s a possible mission for us,” he added.
Up next for Akwa United in the NPFL is an away fixture against Kwara United.
