Rangers’ Champions Tradition Is Back – Ogunbote

Date:

Rangers International of Enugu coach, Gbenga Ogunbote has expressed confidence that The Flying Antelopes’ lofty tradition is back, following their qualification for the semi-finals of this year’s Federation Cup.

To achieve the feat, Rangers spanked last year’s winners, Akwa United of Uyo via penalties on Wednesday, and Ogunbote says his Coal City team should start seeing themselves as champions because they have beaten the defending champions.

Ogunbote stated further Thursday morning on a radio sports programme monitored by footballlive.ng that Rangers will not rest on their oars, as he admits they must start preparing earnestly for the semi-final fixture.

“I am happy that we have restored some of the tradition Rangers were known for in the past. In those days, Rangers were a household name in the Challenge Cup, and I am sure we are heading back to that status.

“Now that we have beaten the defending champions in the Federation Cup, we should start seeing ourselves as the new champions, but that is not to say we will relax.

“Instead of relaxing, we will start preparations immediately for the semi-finals, against whichever team comes against us, and I am sure we will carry the day and lift the cup,” Ogunbote predicted.
