Onazi Vows To Enact Better Form At World Cup

Date:

Trabzonspor of Turkey midfielder, Eddy Ogenyi Onazi has apologised to Nigerian soccer fans over his poor display against England on Saturday, but says he is determined to do better for the Super Eagles during the World Cup.

The former SS Lazio of Italy star admitted he was not at his best in Nigeria’s 2-1 loss at Wembley Stadium, but says he should not be judged on the game, which he said was a one off lapse for him, due to travel fatigue.

The Eagles’ vice-captain further assured Nigerian soccer fans that there is bound to be an improvement before the World Cup tournament.

Critics highlighted how Onazi’s missed timed tackle gave Harry Kane the leverage to fire home the second goal of Saturday’s match, and the midfielder has taken responsibility for the error, but explained that the Eagles’ first half formation exposed the midfield.

“I have to get better. That wasn’t me yesterday. I don’t really want to think about the game too much.

“The problem we had yesterday was the formation, it was not going really right. I did a lot of running on the pitch because we were always one man short on the defensive part of the game.

“The second half was much better because we played the same pattern with them and everybody was with his man,” Onazi expatiated.
