Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong has opened up about his challenging journey back from injury and his future aspirations both on and off the pitch.
Reflecting on the recovery process, Troost-Ekong described the difficulties he faced.
“Yeah, you know, it’s been a difficult time. I think no player likes to be injured. It was also a time for me to refocus,” he told footballlive.ng
“This gave me a great chance to work on my foundation, kind of put that into a fast forward moment.
“So it was in between rehab at the club, rehab at home with my personal trainer, physios, relentless work.
“I tried to put our brains together with BFA and all the sponsors that we have here today to create something special,” he said.
Originally, Troost-Ekong had aimed to return to the pitch for the final three games of the season.
“I was planning to come back for three games before the end. They predicted it would take three to four months for me to come back, and I came back in nine weeks,” he revealed.
However, despite being match fit, he didn’t get to play in the final games, a decision left to the coach.
“I’m match fit. I didn’t play in the last games — that’s up to the coach to decide. But I was back with the team training two weeks before the end. I’m fit now also, so if anything happens to the current squad, coach Peseiro has my full support.”
Looking ahead, Troost-Ekong is focusing on future competitions and his ongoing projects.
“We have many more objectives to come with this AFCON 2025, World Cup 2026, a new season, Champions League qualifications with Watford. Many, many things I’m working on,” he stated.
“I can only thank God that I’m back fit again. We have many more objectives to achieve, and I’m excited about what’s to come,” the CB concluded.
