Abia Warriors, SKE in semi final battle

Date:

Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia will today take on SKE of Port Harcourt in one of the semi final games of the on going South East/ South South Preseason Football Tournament in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.

To make it to the last four, Abia Warriors topped group B while SKE finished behind group A winners, Rivers United.

It was actually a narrow escape for SKE who advanced only on better goal difference ahead of Patriots FC of Enugu.

In their final group games today, Abia Warriors drew goalless with Ebonyi Professionals to top group B with five points from three matches while SKE drew 1-1 with Enugu Patriots to place second in group A with just a solitary point from two games.

Abia Warriors also made it to the semifinals during the maiden edition of the tournament in Nnewi but lost to Rivers United and would like to go one step further by reaching the final but Head Coach, Adenrele Moses said he’s taking the matches as they come.

“So far so good. For now we concentrate on the semifinal game and by God’s Grace we win it and qualify for the final. Abia Warriors is work in progress. We keep moving, making adjustments where necessary,” he said.

Coach Moses described the competition as a good platform for participating teams to fine tune their strategies in readiness for the new season pointing out that the preseason tournament has enabled him to identify areas of weakness in the team which will be corrected before the new season kicks off.

During the Garden City pre-season tournament in Port Harcourt, the Warriors from Umuahia narrowly edged the home team in one of the group games but the two teams shared the spoils in a recent friendly.

This means that tomorrow’s encounter may not be a straight forward affair for the Warriors as many would want to believe.

The winner of the game moves to the final of the competition where it will face either hosts, Cynosure or group A winners, Rivers United who tango in the first semi final also at the Pa Ngele Oruta Stadium in Abakaliki.
