Ahmed Musa has thanked fans of his club and country as he was up for the “best goal at the World Cup” award.
The 25-year-old striker scored a stunning solo goal for Nigeria against Iceland in a 2-0 win.
But he lost out to Benjamin Pavard’s stunning strike that gave France an equalizer in their round of 16 win over Argentina.
“I just want to thank you all for voting,” Musa wrote on Twitter.
“This goal is bigger than me it has shown the world that Nigeria has quality on the world stage and we look to improve in the future.
“I am humbled by the love and encouragement. Thank you all again.”
