Ambrose Eyes Championship Play-off With Derby

Date:

Derby County of England new signing, Efe Ambrose has stated delight with his debut for The Rams’ under-23 squad, but says he is now thinking of a busy spell with the main team and help them gain promotion.

Although he had to step down to the English Championship club’s second team for his first game since arriving as a free agent from Scotland, the former Super Eagles versatile player is now looking forward to better days ahead of him at Pride Park.

Footballlive.ng can report that the former Kaduna United, SC Ashdod of Israel as well as ex-Celtic and Hibernian of Scotland stopper is in line for his main team debut this weekend.

It promises to be a feisty encounter, as The Rams play away to Tammy Abraham’s Aston Villa, who have sensationally dropped to 13th on the table, while Ambrose’s new club are now seventh.

That has given Derby’s fans hope for a place in the EPL promotion play-offs, which Ambrose says is his target now with the club that once had ex-Eagles stopper, Taribo West on their cards, while Fikayo Tomori, who is on loan from Chelsea, is one of his current teammates.

The Africa Cup of Nations 2013 winner admitted playing in the under-23 team was not his bargain on signing the dotted lines with Derby last week, but he acknowledged that it is sensible way of ensuring he picks of full fitness through a graduated process.

Ambrose stated: “Yeah is just to get me up with match fitness and now believe am ready to be involved now. By his Grace (my target) is to get them to the play-off places.”
