Rio 2016 Olympics revelation, Sadiq Umar could be on his way to join former Golden Eaglets invitee, Ovie Ejaria at Glasgow Rangers of Scotland, following support for the Scottish Premiership club from Hibernian defender, Efe Ambrose.
The Gers have launched a frenetic hunt for Umar, who played on loan from AS Roma of Italy at NAC Breda of Holland last season, and Ambrose has given the nod to the former Spezia striker to join him in Scotland, though at a rival club in the SPL.
Rangers’ new manager, Steven Gerrard has made the signing of Umar his priority in his transfer window but they face competition for his services from teams around Europe, notably in Belgium and Holland.
Umar spent the second half of last season on loan at Dutch side NAC Breda and even though the club have the option of extending his deal for another season, they are yet to take it up.
Umar said he would love to team up with the legendary Gerrard but also revealed that his main aim for now is to earn a spot in the first team of Roma.
Ambrose hailed the 21-year-old Umar’s potential and the former Celtic defender, who has been playing in Scotland since 2013, said the striker will no doubt be a big hit in the SPL.
“I know him very well. He lives in same state like me in Kaduna. During the last Olympics in Rio he did very well and from what I have seen of him, he will be a big hit in Scotland if he decides to join Rangers.
“He is strong, quick and skilful. I particularly admire his calmness in front of goal. Here is hoping if he decides to come to Scotland he won’t play to his potential against me,” Ambrose enthused.
