Following Spain’s shock exit at the 2018 World Cup, one of their stars has confirmed his retirement from international football.
La Roja were dumped out of the tournament after losing 4-3 on penalties to Russia on Sunday evening.
Following the encounter, veteran midfielder Andres Iniesta confirmed he had played his final game for the national side.
“It is a reality that is my last match with the national team, at the individual level a wonderful stage is over .” Overall, it is surely the saddest day of my life. career,” Iniesta was quoted as saying by Spanish football official website.
Iniesta, who made 133 appearances for the national side, scored the winning goal in the 2010 World Cup final against the Netherlands, handing Spain their only World Cup title.
