Royal Excel Mouscron of Belgium striker, Taiwo Awoniyi has been named in the Belgium Team of the Week for this past weekend, after his brace and an assist for his club, in a thrilling 4-3 loss yesterday.
Awoniyi was named man of the Match, after drawing his team level on 19 minutes, then provided an assist for a second equaliser on 65 and put Mouscron ahead for the first time later on, only for the home team to fight back and win it.
Awoniyi received a pass just after the centre circle, outpaced two defenders before slotting the ball past the goalkeeper in the 19th minute.
The former Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles star set up Royal Excel Mouscron’s second goal scored by Rotariu before scoring to give the visitors a 3-2 lead on 76 minutes.
Though Mouscron went on to lose the game 4-3, Awoniyi was named Man of the Match and has been rewarded with a place in the Team of the Week.
In a 4-4-2 formation for his side last weekend, the 20-year-old Awoniyi, who has notched a total of seven goals from 26 matches in all competitions, and Racing Genk striker Nikolaos Karelis started in attack.
