Super Falcons midfielder Christy Ucheibe is set to miss several months of action following an injury sustained while playing for Portuguese club, SL Benfica Women.
Ucheibe suffered the injury during the first leg of the UEFA Women’s Champions League, UWCL tie against Swedish side Hammarby, where Benfica secured a 2-1 victory.
Her absence will be a major setback for Benfica as they aim to progress to the group stages of the competition, with Ucheibe being a vital presence in the midfield.
Addressing the injury, Ucheibe shared a heartfelt message on Instagram:
“As you all may have heard, I unfortunately got injured in the Champions League match against Hammarby,” she wrote.
“It’s going to be a few hard and demanding months, but nothing to worry about. I have God, who has never let me down, and He will help me through these trying times.
I am surrounded by wonderful people with good hearts, and my full focus is on getting better than ever before. See you all soon.”
The 23-year-old midfielder has also been instrumental for Nigeria, featuring in all of the Super Falcons’ matches at the Paris Olympics, where the team was eliminated after the group stage.
