New Sporting Lagos head coach, Abdullahi Biffo has expressed his commitment to entertaining the fans with attractive football while also striving for success on the pitch. He emphasized the importance of putting on a show for the supporters who attend their matches.
After Sporting’s 4-2 victory over Abia Warriors at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Biffo outlined his philosophy, highlighting his preference for possession-based football aimed at controlling the game and dictating the pace. He stressed the importance of enjoying possession and using it effectively to create scoring opportunities while also maintaining defensive solidity.
“Anybody that follows me know this, I like winning. But what process to the winning ?
I want people to enjoy football, people cannot come for their house and not see what they pay money for. So, I always tell them I don’t want just play on the ground one touch if you can, two if necessary, and three if you need. So that means if you can’t possess the ball, you will always mark. I always tell them you must make sure we have the ball, if you have the ball, we dictate how we want opponent to play.”
The coach emphasized the need for his players to be proactive in seeking possession and initiating attacking moves, with a focus on ball retention and intelligent decision-making on the field. He aims to instill confidence in his midfielders to enable them to showcase their quality and contribute effectively to the team’s success.
“We have to get to the ball first. We open them up, we start playing. That is what I’m made of. You can see it. I think I was so happy for the midfield that we were able to show the quality of the midfielders that we have today. We have to give them confidence. Don’t put pressure on them. We give them some confidence. They are going to go places.”
Abdullahi Biffo has overseen two games since he took charge of the club from Paul Offor. In that time, he lost his first game in charge, 2-0 against Katsina United and the second game being a 4-2 home win against Abia Warriors.
