Blue Murder! Dodgy Officiating costs Nigeria World Cup Ticket

Date:

A late drama in Yaounde ended Nigeria’s hopes of reaching the 2018 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup after the Flamingos had a late winner chalked off with the scoreline at 1-1.

As per Nigerian journalist Sam Ahmadu, what was a legitimate goal was ruled a no-goal to the “shock” of all present.

“Late drama in Yaounde: Nigeria had goal disallowed to the shock of many and the fans. Still 1-1 as the all await the final whistle.”

The first-leg between the sides had ended 2-2 in Benin City – with Nigeria coming from behind to force draw.

Similarly, on Sunday Bala Nikyu’s team had to come from behind in Yaounde, but fell short of getting the desired result to go through and ending the contest 3-3 on aggregate – losing on away goals rule.

Unfortunately, Nigeria will be missing out of the U17 Women’s World Cup for the first time since the inception of the bi-annual tournament in 2008.

Cameroon thus joins South Africa as the Continent’s representatives at the 2018 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Uruguay.
