Bukayo’s superb goal fails to lift Arsenal U-21 against Portsmouth

Date:

Arsenal new kid on the block Bukayo Saka’s goal was not enough to help the Gunners secure all three points as they lost to Portsmouth in the English Football League U-21 Trophy playoffs on Tuesday.

The Freddie Ljungberg team with the loss have been knocked out of the tournament.

Portsmouth opened scoring in the 10th minute through Brett Pitman before Bukayo Saka equalized for the youth Gunners in the 66th minute. The 17-year-old received the ball on the edge of the box, beat his marker and fired the ball into the top right corner. With just 7 minutes to the end of the match, Andre Green restored the lead for the home side.

Freddie Ljungberg opted to start with Zech Medley, Charlie Gilmour and Bukayo Saka who all made their first team debuts in the Europa League last Thursday while captain Laurent Koscielny started in the middle of the back three as he continues his build back to competitive football.
