The half time team talk between players inside Enyimba’s locker room inspired them to a rampant second-half performance against Rayon Sports in the 5-1 CAF Confederation Cup quarter-final win according to goalscorer Sunday Adetunji.
A first-leg goalless result in Kigali meant both team’s had all to play for in Aba and it was fireworks from the blast of the whistle.
By half-time the scoreboard read 2-1; and Enyimba looked good, but Rayon Sports had a fighter’s chance and all they needed was another goal.
That grim reality struck home for the Aba Elephants and they players all resolved to fight “as we could not afford to lose at home. That’s what we told ourselves,” Adetunji told footballlive.ng
Three minutes after the interval, Sunday Adetunji extended the lead by two, before Osadiaye and Oladuntoye wrapped up a massive win for the two-time CAF Champions League winners.
“Rayon Sports came down to Nigeria with a positive mind. When they got the equalizer they were hoping to get a good result here. We had to raise our game; even after they scored, we spoke among ourselves and decided we couldn’t afford to lose at home and so we came all out in the second half,” the attacker explained.
