Nigeria’s CAF Champions League contenders Lobi Stars chances of making it out of the group stage of the ongoing Total CAF Champions league and qualifying for the quarter finals have increased after playing a goalless draw against their more illustrious opponents Wydad Casablanca of Morocco on Tuesday.
Lobi Stars had lost at home to Wydad at the Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium in Enugu in their first meeting of the group stage and a loss in Morocco would have automatically sealed the team’s fate but the team with a draw are back in the qualifying race.
Head coach of the team veteran Solomon Ogbeide while speaking to journalists in Nigeria had promised that the club will not lose in Morocco and they have a very bright chance of making it out of the group phase despite their status as underdogs.
Despite the draw in Morocco, Wydad Casablanca remains top of the group A table with seven points same as South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns but have a superior goal difference. Lobi Stars sits third on the table with four points while ASEC Mimosa who also got a draw at home is currently bottom of the group also on four points.
Lobi Stars’ next CAF Champions league fixture will be away to second placed Mamelodi Sundowns on the 9th of March while Wydad Casablanca will be away to ASEC Mimosa who they defeated 5 – 2 in the first leg.
Lobi Stars had defeated Mamelodi Sundowns 2 – 1 in Enugu in their first game of the group stage in January.
