Chidera Ejuke got another run out in the UEFA Champions League, Tuesday night, when Royal Antwerp face FC Porto away from home.
Ejuke made his second appearance in the competition, coming off the bench for the second time.
The 25-year-old midfielder has faced challenges securing a starting position, as he has come off the bench four times in the Belgian Pro League, with an average playing time of 55 minutes.
Heading into Tuesday’s game in the Champions League, the Belgian champions had failed to pick points from any of their previous three games and were facing early elimination from the competition.
But the night didn’t start on a good note for Marc van Bommel’s side. Alhassan Yusuf was booked early in the game, and 10 minutes later the visitors were behind at the Estádio do Dragão.
A foul inside the box afforded Evanilson a chance from the spot and the Porto man tucked it away for the game’s first goal.
In the second half, Antwerp were reduced to 10 men, five minutes after the restart.
Van Bommel made several changes including the introduction of Chidera Ejuke as the Belgian side applied some pressure hoping to cancel the deficit.
However, the numerical advantage served Porto and though the goal came late, it settled the contest.
Currently sitting bottom of group H, with no points and two games left, Antwerp’s European campaign may have reached its end.
