Interim Super Eagles coach, Augustine Eguavoen has offered insights into what AC Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze needs to do to regain his best form, as the 25-year-old finds himself sidelined in Paul Fonseca’s squad this season.
With only about 200 minutes of playing time under his belt and no goals or assists to show, Chukwueze’s situation has become precarious, especially with Christian Pulisic’s stellar performance complicating his prospects.
Reports suggest that AC Milan, the seven-time UEFA Champions League winners, are considering offloading Chukwueze if he fails to show signs of resurgence, with several Premier League clubs reportedly interested in acquiring the winger.
Despite his struggles at the club level, Chukwueze has received a call-up to Eguavoen’s squad for the upcoming two-legged tie against Libya as Nigeria aims to qualify for the AFCON 2025 tournament.
Eguavoen revealed his preference for versatile players and outlined what Samuel Chukwueze must do to improve his game.
“I am a coach who likes players who can play in more than one position. If you can play in more than one position, you are fine with me. I don’t want rigid players; I want players who know how to express themselves.”
“You can imagine Chukwueze showing up in defense to lend a hand. Receiving the ball, what does he do? He doesn’t dribble. We know how good he is when he has to dribble, but he should know where to dribble and where not to dribble. If he comes in, he has to do his defensive duty.”
Nigeria is set to face Libya at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Friday, before heading to Libya for the away leg next Wednesday.
