Despite having three key players receiving call-ups to the national U-23 team in a recent list compiled by head coach of the team Imama Amakapabo, FC Ifeanyi Ubah captain Alaekwe Chijioke has revealed to footballlive.ng that the club has tons of exciting players that can easily fill their space as they continue to fight for a Super Six spot in the Nigeria Professional Football League
Goalkeeper Anozie Chinedu, forwards Solomon Nsude and captain Alaekwe Chijioke are part of the 33 home-based players shortlisted by the coach ahead of their Tokyo 2020 Olympics qualifying match against Libya in March in a first leg fixture away from home.
Reacting to the callup and a possibility of it affecting the team’s chances to favorably compete in the league and their ambition of reaching the Super Six, Alaekwe insists that the team still has loads of good players despite the fact that three key players will be uprooted for national team assignment. “Not really, we still have very good players in the team. Me going for the U-23 national team we still have other players that can replace me.
I believe our team will still do well because we work hard together and I’m sure we will achieve together irrespective of the number of players on national assignment.”
Invited players will be released to their teams to help prosecute NPFL games when the national team is in Nigeria.
