Impressive performances in the domestic league has helped the course of Lobi Stars left back Ebube Duru who received his debut call up into the senior national team, the Super Eagles.
Ebube Duru been handed a place in Nigeria’s 18-man squad announced by Super Eagles boss Gernot Rohr on Sunday for the international friendly against Liberia on Tuesday.
The defender who consistently made the headlines for newly coronated Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions Lobi Stars is happy with the invitation by coach Rohr and hopes to maintain his presence in the team.
“I am happy with the fact the fact that I have been given the chance to be part of the team. I know the expectations are high but I would try to give my best. I am young and still need time to adapt. However, I would gradually take the challenges as they come,” Ebube Duru told Footballlive.ng.
“I’ve always been praying to God that I should have my time when its due and if God has destined it, it will come. I will do my best to make sure the flag of Nigeria is lifted high.
“It’s unbelievable but here I am being given the chance to lift the flag of my country, I am not going to disappoint.
A solid performance against Atletico Madrid for the Super Eagles B team in a friendly match in May gave an indication on his talent.
The player is hoping to earn some playing time to stake a claim for a place in the senior national team.
The match in Monrovia is in celebration of Liberian President, former World Footballer of the Year George Oppong Weah.
It is scheduled for Tuesday evening at the 35,000-capacity Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex.
