Nigerian Women Football League (NWFL) reigning champions, Edo Queens have kickstarted their continental journey with a 5-0 drubbing of AS Garde of the Niger Republic. Moses Adukwu’s side left no stone unturned as they set the bar in the group from matchday 1.
The goalscoring party began in the 35th minute with Emem Essien finishing cooly to give the Nigerian champions the lead. Captain Suliat Abideen doubled their advantage from the penalty spot just before halftime, easing things at the interval.
The second half saw three more goals come in from the duo of Emem Essien and Moses Esther, to further punish AS Garde.
The other game in the group saw Ghanian side, Hasaacas Ladies and AS Etincelle of Burkina Faso play out a goalless draw.
Edo Queens are now top of their group after the first round of games, and will prepare to take on Hasaacas Ladies in their next game.
