Edo Queens have booked their place in the final of the CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers, moving one step closer to their first appearance in the prestigious competition.
The Nigerian Women’s Football League, NWFL champions won 2-1 over hosts Inter D’Abidjan on Tuesday night.
Emem Essien opened the scoring for Edo Queens in the seventh minute, setting the tone for the match.
Blessing Illivieda doubled the lead with a fine finish in the 34th minute, putting the visitors firmly in control. However, Inter D’Abidjan pulled one back from the penalty spot through Adjoua Niamien just one minute after the break.
Edo Queens began their campaign in style with a 5-0 thrashing of AS Garde from Niger, followed by a commanding 3-0 victory against Ghana’s Hasaacas Ladies with a narrow 1-0 win over Omnisport Etincelle secured their position as group leaders.
In the other semi-final, Benin Republic’s Ainonvi edged out Etincelle of Burkina Faso with a 1-0 win.
Edo Queens, who are chasing their maiden CAF Women’s Champions League qualification, will now face Ainonvi FC in the final.
The winner of this match will represent the WAFU Zone B in the preliminary stage of the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League in Cairo, Egypt.
