Former Super Eagles captain and coach, Austin Eguavoen (Cerezo) has warned that a major problem area for the current team is the defence, which he fears might be prone to errors at the World Cup.
Following a poor end to the Eagles’ World Cup build-up programme, Eguavoen has spoken out with a strong warning to the coach, Gernot Rohr to check his back-four, even if it may mean having to make changes to his training methods.
The Eagles lost back-to-back friendly matches against England and Czech Republic but, as they prepare to open their World Cup campaign on Saturday against Croatia, Egu said the main area of worry for Rohr should be his defence.
Consequently, the USA ’94 star and alternate captain of the Nigerian team in their maiden outing at the Mundial stressed that Rohr should shore up his defence in order to boost their chances of excelling in Russia.
