Former Super Eagles defender, Michael Emenalo is reportedly in the forefront of efforts to take ex-youth international, Taiwo Awoniyi to AS Monaco of France from Liverpool of England.
Though Awoniyi recently signed a contract extension with Liverpool and has joined The Reds in preseason training, he is being widely tipped with a summer move to Monaco, where Emenalo is the current technical director.
Emenalo already has a long list of players he has helped Monaco sign, since his arrival last year from Chelsea of England, and now appears eager to add a Nigerian compatriot to the roster.
Consequently, the ex-Notts County of England left-back has turned his searchlight on Awoniyi, who is back at Liverpool after a successful loan spell at Royal Excel Mouscron of Belgium, where he scored ten goals last term.
Awoniyi’s performance has earned him an extension with Liverpool for three more years, in spite of still having two years left on his current deal with the Merseyside outfit.
While either Club Brugge or RSC Anderlecht initially appeared plausible for Awoniyi, Monaco are now the front runners for his signature with Emenalo said to be already working out terms on a two year loan deal.
