Ten Hag Backlashes Ronaldo’s Criticism

Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag has responded to Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent criticism, stating Ronaldo’s comments hold little weight since he is now “far away from Manchester” in Saudi Arabia.

Ronaldo criticized Ten Hag for his remarks about Manchester United’s chances in the Premier League and Champions League while speaking in a Rio Ferdinand’s podcast.

Ten Hag, who had a strained relationship with Ronaldo during his time at United, refuted the criticism.

“He said that Manchester United can’t win the Premier League,” Ten Hag stated. “If you read the article very well, he is far away in Saudi, far from Manchester. Everyone can have an opinion, and that’s OK.”

Erik Ten Hag faces pressure ahead of Saturday’s match against Southampton following a 3-0 defeat to Liverpool.

There is ongoing speculation about his future, just months after his contract was extended until 2026 despite public support from CEO Omar Berrada and sporting director Dan Ashworth.

“It doesn’t impact me,” Ten Hag said. “We are in a transition period and need to integrate young players and recover from injuries. We must win every game, and the team is focused on that.”

Luke Shaw and Rasmus Højlund will miss the Southampton game due to injuries, while new signing Manuel Ugarte could make his debut after returning from international duty.
