Flying Eagles To Wear Black Bands For Ogunjobi

Date:

Nigeria’s youth national team, Flying Eagles will on Wednesday wear black arm bands for their semi-final match against Mali at the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, in hour of former secretary-general of the country’s soccer governing body, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi, who died on Monday.

Footballlive.ng gathered that Coach Paul Osahon Aigbogun’s team will honour Ogunjobi in the crunch tie, following approval by Confederation of African Football (CAF), sequel to a request by Nigeria’s soccer body.

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) made the request in respect of the passing of Ogunjobi, who was also a former chairman of the technical committee and died as chairman of Osun State Football Association.

Ogunjobi, who was also a former national team player and ex-captain of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), passed away on Monday morning at University College Hospital, Ibadan after a brief illness.

NFF’s director of competitions, Bola Oyeyode said: “We have received a go-ahead from CAF that the Flying Eagles can use the black armbands.

“It is the least honour that we can accord such an accomplished man who was a football person through and through.”
