Genk’s red-hot striker, Tolu Arokodare, has described his first-ever call-up to the Nigerian national team as a dream come true.
Tolu revealed that the moment he found out was both a surprise and a validation of his hard work.
The 24-year-old forward, who has been in sensational form this season with 19 goals and six assists in 35 appearances across all competitions, is now in contention to make his Super Eagles debut as Nigeria prepares for their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
“It Was Quite Surprising” – Tolu Arokodare
Speaking to the NFF media team, Arokodare reflected on the moment he received the news, admitting that while he expected it, the confirmation still left him in awe.
“First I was surprised, I felt very honored to be mentioned amongst the 39 players, it was quite surprising,” he said.
“I knew it was coming because I’ve been doing pretty well and I was hoping that it would come, and it did come.”
The towering striker, who has been a standout performer for Genk over the past two seasons, confessed that just making the provisional squad was already a major milestone.
“I felt like a winner already, that even if I didn’t make the final 23, I had done something. I just feel really blessed and grateful,” he added.
A Childhood Dream Fulfilled
For Arokodare, the call-up is more than just a reward for his performances—it’s the fulfillment of a lifelong ambition.
“It means a lot, it’s one of the best things that can happen to a footballer, getting the opportunity to represent your country,” he said.
“As a kid, you always watch the national legends play and you always wanted to play for your national team. Finally being able to play for my own country, it means a lot to me.”
Super Eagles’ Road to Redemption
Arokodare joins a Super Eagles squad desperately seeking redemption after a poor start to their World Cup qualifying campaign.
Under new head coach Eric Chelle, Nigeria will face Rwanda in Kigali on March 21st before hosting Zimbabwe in Uyo on March 25th.
With star striker Victor Osimhen still the first-choice forward, Arokodare faces fierce competition for a starting spot.
However, his red-hot form and physical presence could make him a valuable asset in Nigeria’s attack.
Whether or not he makes his debut, one thing is clear—Tolu Arokodare has arrived on the international stage, and he’s ready to seize his moment.
