Former Super Eagles winger, Garba ‘Chindo’ Lawal has warned the Nigerian squad that they face a very potent threat from Iceland in their next match of the 2018 World Cup.
With Ic eland have pulled off a shock 1-1 draw with Argentina few hours before Nigeria lost 2-0 to Croatia on Saturday, Lawal says the danger of a seconds defeat looms for the Eagles.
Nigeria are sitting on the bottom of Group D table with zero point, Croatia is on first position with three points, while Argentina and Iceland are second and third respectively with a point each.
Heading into Friday’s second group match, Lawal warned that Iceland would be Nigeria’s most-dangerous opponent at the World Cup.
The Super Eagles face Iceland next following the 2-0 loss to Croatia and Garba, a veteran of two World Cups has sent a note of warning to the team.
“The Iceland I watched against Argentina are very deadly and dangerous because they play a compact game; the Super Eagles need to be aware of this.
“We saw how they played against Argentina, if not that they were unlucky; they would have won the game.
“The Eagles need to step up their game against a compact Iceland side if they want to get a positive result. Though is going to be difficult but the Eagles can get the job done.
“Argentina might underrate us but Iceland will never do that because they are in for serious business and this is their first time playing in the World Cup, I am sure they want to prove a point.”
