Changchun Yatai of China striker, Odion Jude Ighalo could become the third Nigerian player to star for FC Barcelona of Spain, should hints in that direction prove to be concrete.
Ighalo has admitted he would love to get another club, following the relegation of Yatai from the Chinese Super League and, while noting concrete is yet on his table, footballllive.ng gathered that he has caught the eye of Barca.
Ighalo is said to be in the spotlight of a possible deal that could see him take after Emmanuel Amuneke, Haruna ‘Daddy’ Babangida and Gbenga ‘Eric’ Okunnowo as the next Nigerian to star for The Catalans’ main team.
However, it is not bound to be cut and fix for the striker, who grew up in Ajegunle area of Lagos, as Barca are also looking at Alvaro Morata, as they want an attacker to take some demands off Luis Suarez.
Barcelona also want to sign a striker in the January transfer window following the departure of Munir El Haddadi to Sevilla, and Ighalo fits the garb of a lethal man up front, who gets into space and finishes well.
Dramatically, Barca’s interest in Ighalo dates back to his days in La Liga, during which he starred for Granada against The Azulgranas three times and scored in a 2-1 loss back in the 2012-2013 season.
However, Ighalo has concrete offers from clubs in the English Premier League, and turned up in England for talks at the weekend.
Barcelona may miss out on a deal unless the come up with something tangible this week, as Ighalo has also attracted interest from Turkish Super Lig duo of Fenerbahce and Galatasaray.
