Iheanacho, Success, Chukwueze fires blank in Super Eagles Sunday roundup.

Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi’s club Rotterdam was on the receiving end of a 7 – 0 thrashing in the hands of English Premier League defending champions Manchester City in the third round of the English FA Cup on Sunday.

The former Arsenal academy player scored an own goal in the 45th minute of the encounter that saw his club crash out of the world’s oldest football competition. The other six goals were shared amongst the Manchester City players including   Raheem Sterling, Phil Foden, Riyad Mahrez, Leroy Sane, Gabriel Jesus and Nicolas Otamendi.

 

Super Eagles forward Isaac Success was in Watford FC’s starting lineup as they beat non-league side Working FC 2 – 0 in the FA Cup third round on Sunday away from home.

 

The Nigerian international was cautioned in the 14th minute of the encounter and later substituted for captain Troy Deeney in the 71stminute and was an instant hit as he doubled the score line for the Hornets in the 74th minute after winger Will Hughes had put the premier league side up in the 13th minute.

 

Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho fired blanks as Leicester City lost 2 – 1 away to League Two side Newport County in the FA Cup. His national team compatriot Wilfred Ndidi was unlisted for the trip to South Wales.

 

In the 10th minute, Jamille Matt opened scoring for the home side while Rachid Ghezzal equalized for the EPL side before Padraig Amond converted an 85th minute penalty to ensure their passage into the fourth round. Iheanacho was on for the entire duration of the match.

 

In Spain, Nigerian wonder kid Samuel Chukwueze was in action for Villarreal in the La Liga Santander as the Yellow Submarines played out a goalless draw away to Eibar. Chukwueze has made eight successive starts for the La Liga outfit since breaking into the first team in October of 2018.

 

Nigerian winger Samuel Kalu was in action for Bordeaux but was unable to save the Ligue 1 side from tasting defeat in the hands of Le Havre in the French Cup on Sunday. The Super Eagles winger was substituted off in the second half in place of Yann Karamoh as the lost at home by a goal to nil.

 

Super Eagles defensive midfielder Mikel Agu was in action as Vitoria de Setubal played out a goalless draw against Chaves in the Portuguese Primeira Liga on Sunday. The Nigerian international was on for the entire duration of the match.
