Iwobi Blames Old Trafford Draw On Poor Focus

Date:

Arsenal attacker, Alex Iwobi is still ruing his side’s inability to hold their own and beat Manchester United on Wednesday night, as he admits The Gunners lost focus while leading at Old Trafford.

Footballlive.ng can report that Iwobi acknowledged that, instead of slowing down the tempo and trying to maintain the flow of the game at their own pace, Arsenal got really excited and tried to do everything to overwhelm their hosts.

The Super Eagles star confessed that The Gunners’ inability to keep their heads saw them lose their lead twice against The Red Devils, only to eventually settle for a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford.

Iwobi, who was on from the start and lasted 65 minutes, said he and his teammates should have maintained the lead they had on two occasions, a minute after going ahead in unexpected favourable situations.

Arsenal could have still scored a winner later on, with Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan ‎both close to scoring, but Iwobi admits they were not focused enough to snatch all three points.

Iwobi reasoned: “I guess it’s a hard one to take because we were ahead twice. Maybe it’s just a mental thing of staying focused.

“We got a bit excited and tried to rush forward where we shouldn’t have. Maybe it’s about just making sure we settle things down a bit.

“We knew it was going to be a difficult game because Old Trafford is always a tough place to come. Both teams fought hard, though, so I guess a draw is a fair result for both teams.”
