Arsenal attacker, Alex Iwobi has successfully come through an off the pitch challenge with his teammates, as he opted to dare the odds in plunging into an ice cold pool during their ongoing pre-season tour of Singapore.
Iwobi was glad to take the ice bath at The Gunners’ camp, few hours after lining out on the pitch for another training session, ahead of their forthcoming busy build-up schedule.
The London side are billed for two back-to-back crunch friendlies, as they line out first against Europa League champions, Atletico Madrid of Spain in the 2018 International Champions Cup.
Iwobi and his colleagues will then go for an emotional outing against their new manager, Unai Emery’s former club, Paris Saint-Germain.
The matches are part of the preparations by Arsenal, ahead of Emery’s first campaign for English Premier League honours in charge at the Emirates club.
This comes amidst reports that Iwobi has agreed to sign a new five-year contract with The Gunners, and will more than double his wages at Emirates Stadium to £70,000 a week.
The 22-year-old Iwobi, who passed through the youth system at Arsenal, and is just two appearances short of 100 for the Gunners, has been a regular over the last two seasons.
However, his future at Emirates Stadium was believed to be unclear following the arrival of Emery as coach.
Iwobi, who scored three goals and got seven assists in 39 appearances in all competitions for his London club during the 2017-18 camp, earlier received summer transfer interest from SS Lazio of Italy and Everton of England.
That followed reports that he could be available for £22m this summer amid interest from Lazio, but Iwobi has now committed his long-term future to Arsenal.
The announcement will be made official once Arsenal return from their pre-season trip to the Far East.
