Arsenal attacker, Alex Iwobi has apparently received a go-ahead for more spectacular displays of skills during key matches, as The Gunners’ gaffer, Unai Emery says he has nothing against the Super Eagles’ star’s tendency to show off.
In contrast with feelers that Iwobi was yanked off after half time of Sunday’s victory against Tottenham Hotspur on account of showboating in the first half, footballlive.ng gathered that Emery is singing a different song.
Rather than scold Iwobi for his displays at Emirates Stadium, in a game Arsenal eventually won 4-2 and stormed into the EPL top-four, Emery stressed that it was a tactical decision to replace the Eagles’ star.
Iwobi has started and completed only two matches in the Premier League this season, against Leicester City and Crystal Palace in October, but stats showed on Sunday that he had no key pass, no fouls won and no take-ons completed before he was replaced.
In the eye of several pundits, Iwobi was also guilty of playing to the gallery and losing balls, but Emery is staying calm over the matter.
In reaction, Emery said: ”I changed two players at half-time, but not because Iwobi and Mkhitaryan were doing badly, but because we needed to change and push with different players.
”I explained that Aaron has experience in derbies, and the second was that I thought we could do better with players with the capacity to score against them. ”
