HIFL: I TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE LOSS- JACOB ATUNWA

Having eliminated Bayaro University of Kano in the previous round of the Higher Institution Football League (HIFL), the players and technical staff of Usman Danfodio University of Sokoto popularly known as the Udu Sultans were more than confident of putting their visitors from Ilorin to the sword at the back of their yard but two goals in either half by man of the match Hawwal Ogunronbi and substitute Ogungbero Mustapha was all the University of Ilorin also known as the Unilorinwarriors to silence the home crowd thereby leaving the Sokoto based University side with a hill to climb in Ilorin.

Reacting after the match the Coach Jacob Atunwa of Usman Danfodio University Sokoto described the loss at as a huge shock to him as an individual but promises to storm Ilorin, beat the Warriors at their fortress then seal qualification to the semi final in Lagos.

“It is surprising that we could not defeat University of Ilorin today but I am quite sure that if Ilorin can come and win in Sokoto then my charges will go to Ilorin to qualify ahead of the Warriors”.

The seasoned Coach went on to disclose his unhappiness over his side’s disqualified goal in the tail end of the encounter.

“I saw the goal Anash scored and it was a good goal, I can’t still explain the reason behind the disqualification of that goal and to me I was robbed of a legitimate goal”.

On the final note the coach accepted to take the blame for his side’s poor performance.

“I feel the pains of the fans and the students who trooped out in their numbers to support the team while losing is still part of the game I take full responsibilities on today’s loss, we only get better he concluded”.

UduSultans of Sokoto will next be the guest of University of Ilorin boys on the 19th of September in the return to determine who will make it to Lagos for the semi final of the HIFL.
