Torino of Italy midfielder, Joel Chukwuma Obi appears set to gain a summer deal from his return to relevance with the Super Eagles, as he is said to be attracting interest from FC Porto and Benfica of Portugal as well as SV Main of Germany and of Espanyol of Spain.
While Porto and Benfica are apparently leading the race, it was gathered that scouts from Mainz and Espanyol were among the spectators that watched Obi play for Nigeria against Czech Republic in an international friendly at Rudolf-Tonn-Stadion in Schwechat, Austria.
Obi’s outing against the Czech was a continuation of his resurgence in Nigeria’s jersey, after repeated bouts with injury kept him out for four years, as he also started earlier friendlies against Poland, Serbia, DR Congo and in the 2-1 loss to England at Wembley.
The 27-year-old has spent the whole of his professional career with Italian clubs, but could now be on his way out of the Land of The Azzurri this summer.
The attacking midfielder will enter the final twelve months of his contract with Torino at the start of July and an exit from the Turin-based club before the window closes cannot be ruled out, especially as he has not been offered a new deal.
