Date:

Southampton of England new signing, Jonathan Afolabi has expressed a relish of the first professional deal he will ink with the club, and is delighted with the prospects of playing in the English Premier League next season.

Afolabi signed the dotted lines with The Saints this past weekend, thereby putting him in line for a spot in their main squad ahead of the 2018-2019 season.

In signing the deal, the Republic of Ireland under-19 international, Afolabi ended all the speculation about his future, after he was listed among the players yet to pen fresh deals at the end of last season.

However, with Afolabi now choosing to remain at Southampton, he is expected to partner fellow-Nigerian, Michael Obafemi, in attack for the club’s under-23 team, who will play in the Premier League 2 Division 2 in the upcoming season.

The two teenagers were not included in Southampton’s first team squad that flew out to China on Saturday night for a two-week training camp, where they will face Schalke 04 of Germany and their hosts, Jiangsu Suning in friendly matches.

Afolabi stated: ”Delighted to have signed my first professional contract at Southampton FC. I’d like to thank everyone who helped me along the way and most importantly God ???????? Looking forward to what this season has in store… #saintsfc.”
