Katsina United Label Ezenwa’s Deal ‘Big Boost’

Date:

The management of Katsina United has described their ability to sign Super Eagles’ back-up goalkeeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa into their ranks as a ‘big boost’ for the club.

Footballlive.ng reports that Ezenwa finally signed the dotted lines for the Northern club on Thursday, thereby putting paid to all doubts about the deal not seeing the light of day.

An initial move by the former Heartland of Owerri, FC Ifeanyiubah of Nnewi and Enyimba of Aba shot-stopper to join The Changi Boys fell through, due to his wage demands, but all that was finally settled.

Ezenwa’s salary at Katsina will be N450,000, which is still well below N700,000 he demanded during the initial negotiations with the club.

However, he will be the highest earning player at the club ahead of the likes of the Katsina-based club’s youthful midfielder, Destiny Ashadi.

Such is the confirmation from Katsina United, as the former FA Cup winners disclosed that they are delighted and thrilled to finally hook the services of Nigeria’s leading home-based keeper.

The 30-year-old stopper, who has also played for Ocean Boys of Brass, Sharks of Port Harcourt and Sunshine Stars of Akure, left Enyimba at the end of a year’s contract with the two-time African champions.

Ezenwa, who lost his starter’s shirt at Enyimba to Theophilus Afelokhai, completed his medicals on Thursday before signing the dotted lines with Katsina United ahead of the new season in the NPFL.

The Canada 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup revelation will compete with former Golden Eaglets star, Dami Paul, Niger Republic international, Kassaly Dauda and fast-rising Yinka David in Katsina, but the club are already sounding excited about what they stand to gain from his deal.

Katsina United stated: “We will have the boost of @SuperEagles_ goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa in the forthcoming season as the former @SunshineFCAkure star signed the dotted lines for @fckatsinaunited after passing medicals.”
