Libya’s national football team, the Knights, have selected the Martyrs of Benina Stadium as the venue for their Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON qualifying match against Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
The Matchday 4 fixture will take place on Tuesday, 15th October, at the 10,000-capacity stadium located 19 kilometres outside Benghazi, Libya’s second-largest city.
Nigeria leads Group D with four points after a 3-0 win over Benin Republic and a goalless draw against Rwanda.
Libya, on the other hand, has managed only one point from two matches, drawing 1-1 with Rwanda and losing 2-1 to Benin Republic. They currently seat bottom of the table.
Before the return leg in Libya, both teams will face off in Uyo, Nigeria, on Friday, 11th October, with kickoff set for 5 pm Nigeria time. The second leg in Benina will follow four days later, beginning at 8 pm Nigeria time.
Libya hopes to leverage their home conditions to revive their qualification hopes, while Nigeria aims to maintain their strong start and inch closer to securing a spot in the 2025 AFCON tournament.
