Middleborough coach Tony Pulis has expressed his excitement at signing veteran Nigerian midfielder John Mikel Obi who was a free agent after running out is contract with Chinese Super League club Tianjin TEDA.
The former Stoke City and Wesbrom coach stated that getting a player the caliber of Mikel was exactly what the team needed to intensify their premier league promotion push and he believes his experience at the top flight level will come in handy in Boro’s promotion chase and all round stability.
Boro boss Tony Pulis who was delighted to complete the signing of Mikel said: “I’m pleased to get him in. He is a man with a lot of experience and quality. He has a winning mentality and he wants to be here be a part of what we are looking to achieve.”
Mikel becomes Boro’s second addition of the January transfer window, following the arrival of Rajiv van La Parra on loan from Huddersfield earlier in the month. He will wear the number 2 shirt.
Boro is currently fifth on the league table seven spots behind table toppers Leds United. Boro has won a total of 12 matches 11 draws and 5 losses in 28 matches.
