Tianjin Teda of China midfielder, John Mikel obi has promised that he and his teammates in the Super Eagles will make all Nigerians proud of them on Friday, as he says the squad is determined to beat Iceland in their second match at Russia 2018 World Cup.
The Eagles’ captain admitted that beating Iceland will not come easy, as the opponents would be relaxed from their opening day draw with Argentina, but he stressed that high level of patriotism on the part of all the Nigerian players will make seek to justify wearing the nation’s colours on Friday.
Mikel added that the players are fully committed and united than ever to give their all for the nation when they file out against debutants Iceland in their second Group D match.
The former Chelsea midfielder further urged Nigerians back home not to give up on the team, as they are still committed to the World Cup and assured of their readiness to give a different approach to the game against Iceland.
Mikel said: “The game against Croatia was a disappointing one for all of us because we did not play to our full potential; we have spoken as a team and we have learnt from our mistakes and will correct them in our next game.
“The game against Iceland will be a much more difficult game because they will be more relaxed after their draw against Argentina. They showed the world that they can be giant killers and we must approach them with all seriousness and go for all three points.
“We remain patriotic and united to defend the Green, White, Green flag and I want to urge all Nigerians here in Russia and at home not to relent in their support for the team as we promise to make the nation proud come Friday.”
