Ndidi and Iheanacho’s Leicester Win Championship on Away Ground

Although Leicester City had secures promotion to the premier league on Sunday, they still had to win the division on Monday night against Preston. Deepdale would be their coronation venue as Enzo Maresca’s men put three goals past their opposition to claim the ultimate win.

 

Jamie Vardy was the one who got the party started as he drew first blood in the 36th minute, to edge the foxes closer to the titile. The englishman scoring his 17th league goal of the season.

 

Vardy scored number 18 just seven minutes after the restart as he was on hand to fire home a rebound, as Wout Faes’ shot hit the woodwork, setting it up for Vardy to fire into the roof of the net.

 

Kasey McAteer put the result beyond doubt in the 67th minute as he headed home a cross from AbdulFatawu Ishaku to make it 3-0.

Wilfred Ndidi was in action for 70 minutes, before he was replaced by Hamzah Choudhury. The Nigerian put in a shift that included 4 clearances, winning all his three contested duels, but he dragged his only shot of the game wide in the 59th minute.

Kelechi Iheanacho also contributed to Leicester’s championship run. The forward appearing 22 times in the league for the Foxes, with 12 of them from the bench and finding the back of the net 5 times during the campaign.

 

Leicester City accumulated 97 points from 45 games played and are 7 points clear of second placed Leeds United, granting them automatic promotion to the English top flight.
