NFF, Everton celebrates Aiyegbeni on his 36th birthday

The Nigeria Football Federation, Everton FC and football loving fans today showed their appreciation to former Nigerian striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni as he celebrates his 36th birthday.

 

Aiyegbeni who had successful spells with numerous clubs across the world including Maccabi Haifa in Israel, Portsmouth, Everton, Middleborough, Leicester City and Blackburn Rovers all in England officially retired from professional football on his 35th birthday on November 22, 2017.

The Yak as he is fondly called is Nigeria’s third highest goal scorer behind legends like Rashidi Yekini. (App 58, G37) and the great Segun Odegbami (App46, G23) with a toatal of 21 goals in 57 appearances.

Celebrating the former Julius Berger front man, the NFF on its official social media handles (Twitter and Instagram) wrote. “It’s Yakubu Aiyegbeni’s birthday. The bulky striker scored 21 goals in 57 appearances for the @NGSuperEagles and remains third
all-time highest goal scorer for the team. Have a good one ‘The Yak.”

The Super Eagles official Twitter handle also took time out to celebrate the Edo state born former footballer. “Feed the Yak, and he’ll score. Happy birthday goal poacher.”

Aiyegbeni’s former club Everton also celebrated the goal merchant who scored a total of 25 goals in 73 appearances for the Merseyside club uploading some of the striker’s best goals on Youtube and tweeting. “Happy 36th birthday Yakubu. EFC loves.”
